VegReview: Ezra’s Enlightened Cafe

As Told by Indy’s FIRST EVER “VegReview”!

There is nothing quite as satisfying as sinking your teeth into something local, cruelty free, and made with love. Located a few roads off of the main strip of Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, sits Ezra’s Enlightened Café. EzrasAll meals at Ezra’s are made with fresh organic ingredients that are NON-GMO, locally sourced, and bee-gan (vegan, with the exception of local, raw honey in some dishes.) According to their website,, they are also a “Green Café”, which means they recycle their compost, and use recyclable and biodegradable packaging in the café.

Ezra’s Enlightened Café, named after owner/Chef Audrey’s son, Ezra, was created with a very important mission. The official website says: Ezra’s Enlightened Café offers enlightened food, wellness products and education to our customers, our community and the planet, serving awareness, happiness, vibrant health and culinary bliss; one beautiful person at a time.

The Cafe

The CafeEzra’s Enlightened Café is very inviting and bright. The window ledges are adorned with mason jars full of flowers, and flowerpots full of spices they use in their kitchen. A bowl filled with tiny printed affirmations for customers to take as they order sits on the front desk. If you choose to sit outside of the café to enjoy your meal, you will benefit from the natural light that comes in from all angles of the greenhouse-like covering. Basically, you get a full-circle positive experience at Ezra’s!

The Menu

The menu at Ezra’s is filled with vibrant, high-energy foods such as the very popular entree, the Buddha Bowl. Buddah Bowl from Ezra's FacebookThis bowl, which is a lot like a salad, contains the most delicious kale one could ever ask for, massaged with Chef Audrey’s own organic local raw honey recipe! The bowl also contains local organic greens, organic carrots, organic beets, organic ginger, fermented veggies, local organic sprouts, slices of fresh avocado, and even raw falafels! All topped with Ezra’s delicious lemon tahini dressing. The presentation of the food at Ezra’s is just as thoughtful as the ingredients themselves. Just take a look at some of their other entrees!

Ezra’s Enlightened Café doesn’t just focus on entrees, though. At this café, you are absolutely spoiled with the amount of fresh smoothies and juices you can order. The delicious Protein Warrior smoothie contains cacao, banana, almond milk, almond butter, blueberry and spirulina, all in one cup. This creamy smoothie is basically a meal in itself, as it is very filling and gives you a lot of energy. And, let’s face it, chocolate paired with banana is amazing in any situation.

Juice at Ezras
The juices at Ezra’s are just as delicious as the smoothies! For those who enjoy more of a green, only kind of sweet juice, the Green Goddess is for you! Containing organic local greens, organic apple, organic ginger and lemon, this juice will definitely pick you up. It is also very good to have during cold season as ginger and lemon help you strengthen your immune system, so that’s just an extra! For those who want the same benefits as the Green Goddess, but don’t like the green taste of, well, greens in their juices, the Radiant Heart juice might be a better fit! It’s a sweeter mix of organic apples, organic ginger, organic carrot and organic orange! A lot like Suja Brand’s packaged Fuel juice, but fresh, local and made with love right in front of you!

Last but definitely not least, Ezra’s also serves up quite a few delicious desserts in their “Un” Bakery! Their desserts are free of gluten, dairy and processed sugar, of course. They offer comforting carrot spice muffins, decadent triple the brownieschocolate brownies, and the always-delicious chocolate hazelnut cake, covered with avocado-chocolate frosting. When you think you’re too full from their delicious meals to enjoy one of their equally delicious desserts, no problem! Just get your dessert to go and pop it in the fridge when you get home as they generally keep very well.
